-- Editor at Large Michael Nichols spent a year living in California documenting the battle to save the giant redwoods. In the past 100 years, 95 percent of the greatest forest in the world has been cut down, causing a legacy of fouled streams and scarred land. The exhibition "Redwoods: California's Timber Wars," and in particular an 18-meter (59-feet high) high composite image of a 300-foot redwood, was a highlight of the recent Visa pour l'Image International Festival of Photojournalism in Perpignan, France.
